June 6–12, 2010, VSA—the international organization on arts and disability—will bring together artists, educators, researchers, and policymakers with and without disabilities from around the world for a multicultural celebration of the arts and arts education. The Festival will feature visual, performing, literary, and media artists and a guest list that includes more than 2,000 participants from all corners of the globe. The 2010 International VSA Festival will be the largest arts event featuring artists with disabilities to take place in Washington, D.C., to date.

Scotiabank Group Charity Challenge

Lace up your sneakers, put on your running shorts, and join us on May 30, 2010 for some fun fitness!  This year, the Canadian Down Syndrome Society is proud to partner up with the Scotiabank Group and the Calgary Marathon to participate in the Scotiabank Group Charity Challenge.  It is a challenging, competitive and fun event with a race designed for everyone of any level. There is a full marathon, half-marathon, 10 km, 5 km family walk or run and kids' marathon.  If you would like to be a part of Team CDSS or would like to pick us as your charity of choice, use code CC2010DS and select Canadian Down Syndrome Society in the drop down menu.  The first 10 participants to sign-up, receive their registration for free!

Join CDSS in welcoming Kirk Crowther as our new Executive Director.

Kirk has been an integral part of the CDSS for over 5 years. As the Manager of Advocacy and Leadership Kirk has worked tirelessly with parents, educators, self-advocates and all of our local groups across Canada making sure they receive the most up to date and accurate information available. Kirk has presented internationally on issues such as advocacy, inclusion and prenatal information. Kirk has proven himself as an industry expert  and will continue as a strong and inspiring leader.

Early Bird Registration for the 23rd Canadian Down Syndrome Conference is drawing to a close.  By registering now, you could save as much as $50 per participant.

The 2010 Down Syndrome Conference presented in partnership by the Canadian Down Syndrome Society and the Saskatchewan Down Syndrome Society will take place in Regina, Saskatchewan from May 14 - 16.  If you have not registered already time is running out.

Prenatal Screening: Who benefits? (EN & FR)

CDSS has been contacted by community filmmaker Josee Boulanger. She is looking for families and individuals interested in speaking about prenatal screening and would like to share their story.  Once completed talking with people across Canada she proposes to make a documentary film based on her findings.

In 2008 Josee was the filmmaker of the highly regarded documentary “The Freedom Tour”.
