Jean Elizabeth Buchanan Cruikshank cared deeply for her family and always had concern for the plight of others in the world. She was a resilient, caring, and thoughtful person, always there to help and give to others in need. Jean worked for twenty years as an Occupational Therapist and in the latter part of her career worked mostly with persons with disabilities, including those with Down syndrome. In 1964, she continued her work in a volunteer capacity. A granddaughter, Michelle, was also born with Down syndrome and due to a heart condition, died at the age of three. Jean left this world on January 9, 2009. True to her beliefs that included the importance of helping others, she chose to give a gift to the Canadian Down Syndrome Society, in memory of Michelle. Our lives and the world were enriched by the presence and generosity of this beautiful woman, Jean. |
