Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on March 21
![]() |
Down Syndrome International (DSI) has officially earmarked 21 March as World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). The date was chosen to signify the uniqueness of Down syndrome in the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome and is used synonymously with Down syndrome. Commemoration of World Down Syndrome Day started on 21 March 2006, it has " grown " manifold globally. The annual observance of WDSD aims to promote awareness and understanding of Down syndrome and related issues : and to mobilize support and recognition of the dignity, rights and well being of persons with Down syndrome. (from the World Down Syndrome Day Website) To honour World Down Syndrome Day, the Canadian Down Syndrome Society has created a unique poster that can be posted in your communities to raise awareness for the month of March. Call for Media Release Connection

The CDSS is looking for a media release connection. The CDSS has several media requests throughout the year for information about Down syndrome or to respond to something happening in Canada related to people with Down syndrome. Because of the tremendouscost of sending media releases the CDSS has been limited to the number of releases we are able to send each year. If you or someone you know is able to send releases for no cost or a reduced cost we would love to hear from you. Please call Christy Thompson at 403-270-8500 The Canadian Down Syndrome Society is a non-profit organization that advocates and educates on behalf of people with Down syndrome and their families. |

As a part of the continuous evolution of the CDSS, we would like to welcome Kirk Crowther in his new role as the Acting Executive Director. Kirk has been an integral part of the CDSS for over 5 years. As the Manager of Advocacy and Leadership Kirk has worked tirelessly with parents, educators, self-advocates and all of our local groups across Canada making sure they receive the most up to date and accurate information available. Kirk has presented internationally on issues such as advocacy, inclusion and prenatal information. Kirk has proven himself as an industry expert and will continue a long unwavering legacy of enthusiastic leadership. We would like to thank Krista Flint for her vision over the past 4 years. Krista brought the CDSS to a new level of professionalism and injected each member of the staff, VATTA and Board with her passion. Krista will be missed, she has served as both a mentor and leader to many during her time at the CDSS. Everyone at the CDSS would like to wish Krista the best in all of her new endeavors. |
