Call for Board Member Nominations
The Canadian Down Syndrome Society Invites Expressions of Interest for the Board of Directors 2010-2012 Term
The Nominations Committee of the Canadian Down Syndrome Society (CDSS)
Board of Directors is interested in hearing from big-picture strategic
thinkers who are interested in volunteering for a two-year term on the
Board of this forward-moving, national, not-for-profit organization.
Over the past four years the CDSS has undergone a transformation from
that of a national parent support group to that of a national leader in
issues that are relevant to and responsive to the lives of people with
Down syndrome and their families. In this current climate we are
seeking Board Members who can assist in the challenging area of long
term sustainable funding to continue our work. Our key initiatives
include:
- prenatal genetic screening and testing;
- dissemination of value neutral, current and factual information about Down syndrome to new and prospective parents, and the medical profession;
- renewed focus on inclusive education;
- inclusion of people with Down syndrome in governance and decision making;
- enhanced engagement and stronger relationships with Down syndrome organizations across the country; and,
It is an exciting time of innovation and progress! If you or someone you know has the time to give, passion for the issues, and feel that you or they can play a role in inspiring the investments of stakeholders, partners and funders in the CDSS and our work, we would like to talk to you. This year we are also particularly interested in identifying individual self advocates who can speak up!
